I am a big fan of of video games, and e-sports. The video game industry is one which has been growing steadily, especially in the area of competitive gaming, known as e-sports. One of the reasons for this growth has been the use of social media to promote these games. Just by looking at youtube's homepage, one can often find a video of a game.
One of the reasons why I started my blog today is that there is a tournament going on this weekend, which is being broadcasted online available for anyone to view for free on mlgpro.com. This being the main platform for the broadcast, it illustrates how reliant e-sports is on the use of social media for its development. For those of you who might not be as familiar with e-sports, here is an interesting video talking a bit about the history, growth, and future of the industry.
To be honest, I actually find myself in the past few months, watching more games than actually playing them myself. I get drawn in as a spectator, just like I do when watching my favourite basketball team play, or football team. It has probably become the main reason why I use websites such as youtube, justin.tv, or even facebook, to get news of my favourite teams, players, and often even have the chance to chat, and interact with them. So, i guess my main question for the day is, is there someone that you follow on twitter, or facebook or any other social network, and engage with, and why?
